The EIA says crude prices and refinery margins generally rose in the third quarter of 2026. Brent futures peaked at $109 a barrel on September 15, US refinery utilization averaged 95 percent, and distillate inventories were 13 percent below the five-year average.

The Census Bureau reported October 2, 2026 that August new orders for manufactured goods rose 0.1% to $663.5 billion after a 0.8% July gain. Shipments were virtually unchanged at $658.6 billion, unfilled orders rose 0.6% and inventories rose 0.5%.
