**Ottawa adds copper wire, wood charcoal** — Canada's Department of Finance published an expanded list of countermeasures, including a 50% tariff on wood charcoal (tariff items 4402.90.10/.90) and copper wire, set to take effect September 8. The list also hits plywood/laminated wood (50%), sawn wood (25%), dairy, paper, and apparel at rates of 15-50%. **$27.6 billion in trade now affected** — the countermeasures respond directly to the US's August 22 move imposing 50% tariffs on $27.6 billion of Canadian goods under Section 338/232 authority. For US importers and exporters in lumber, metals, and food/dairy supply chains, this raises input costs and cross-border pricing risk heading into September.
