Treasury says markets absorbed $550B in new bills

Deputy Treasury Secretary Francis Brooke said net bill supply rose more than $550B in July and August, and money funds took about 85%.

Deputy Treasury Secretary Francis Brooke told the Treasury Market Conference that net bill supply rose by more than $550B in July and August, about 8% growth in two months. Money market funds took about 85% of it. Treasury has now bought back nearly $500B of its securities, and stablecoin issuers hold nearly $200B in bills and other short-dated Treasuries.
