BEA raised Q2 real GDP growth from 1.5% to 2.2% annualized in its September 30 third estimate. Investment, consumer spending and government spending drove the upward revision.

The Bureau of Economic Analysis reported on September 30, 2026 that real U.S. gross domestic product increased at a 2.2% annualized rate in the second quarter of 2026. The third estimate revises the second estimate of 1.5% upward by 0.7 percentage point. BEA says the revision primarily reflects higher estimates for investment, consumer spending and government spending. The first quarter's real GDP growth was revised to 2.5% annualized. The second-quarter figure covers April through June and is a seasonally adjusted annual rate, not a 2.2% increase during those three months or a forecast for the third quarter. BEA says consumer spending, investment and exports contributed to second-quarter growth. Imports increased; imports are subtracted in the GDP calculation. Those accounting relationships should not be read as a judgment that all imports reduce economic welfare. Real final sales to private domestic purchasers, which combines consumer spending and gross private fixed investment, increased 4.6% annualized, revised upward by 0.4 percentage point. That measure excludes government purchases and exports and is not the same as total GDP. Third estimate is a release vintage, not a promise that the data can never change again. BEA's September release also incorporates its annual update. Quotes of the earlier 1.5% second-quarter estimate should retain their date and vintage rather than be presented as today's figure. The current GDP figure is 2.2% annualized. Source: https://www.bea.gov/news/2026/gdp-third-estimate-industries-corporate-profits-state-gdp-and-state-personal-income-2nd
