BEA and Census reported October 6 that the August goods and services deficit rose 13.7% to $105.6 billion. Exports were $315.2 billion and imports $420.8 billion. July was revised to a $92.8 billion deficit.
EIA: Brent peaked at $109 in Q3 and US refineries ran at 95 percent as crack spreads widened
The EIA says crude prices and refinery margins generally rose in the third quarter of 2026. Brent futures peaked at $109 a barrel on September 15, US refinery utilization averaged 95 percent, and distillate inventories were 13 percent below the five-year average.
ISM services PMI slips to 54.9 in September as prices index hits 74, highest since July 2022
The Institute for Supply Management says its Services PMI was 54.9 percent in September, down 0.5 point from August. The Prices Index rose to 74 percent, its highest since July 2022, and the Employment Index returned to 50.1.
