The Fed raised its target range a quarter point on Sept 16, on a 12-0 vote, as consumers show strain.

On Sept 16 the Fed raised its target range a quarter point, to 3.75%-4%, on a 12-0 vote, saying inflation "remains elevated." New projections put the policy rate at 4.00%-4.25% by the end of 2026. Consumers are already strained: Michigan sentiment fell to a preliminary 47.8 in September, and year-ahead inflation expectations rose to 4.6%.
