U.S. private-sector employment increased by 90,000 in September 2026, ADP reported on September 30. August employment growth was revised from 38,000 to 36,000. ADP Research produces the National Employment Report in collaboration with the Stanford Digital Economy Lab using anonymized weekly payroll data from more than 26 million private-sector employees. Service-providing industries added 59,000 jobs and goods-producing industries added 31,000. Education and health services added 55,000, while leisure and hospitality added 22,000. Financial activities lost 16,000 jobs and professional and business services lost 11,000. Construction added 15,000 and manufacturing added 17,000. ADP Pay Insights reported median base-pay growth of 3.2% over the year for all workers and median gross-pay growth of 4.7%. Base-pay growth was 3.0% for job-stayers and 4.8% for job-changers. These are year-over-year pay measures, not monthly employment changes. This is an independent payroll-based measure of private-sector employment. It is not the Bureau of Labor Statistics total nonfarm payroll estimate, and this release does not by itself establish economist consensus, Treasury yields, or the path of Federal Reserve policy.
