EIA Reported U.S. Working Natural Gas in Storage at 3,153 Bcf on August 7

The Energy Information Administration’s August 13 weekly report put Lower 48 working natural gas in underground storage at 3,153 billion cubic feet as of August 7, up 36 Bcf from the prior week, 25 Bcf below a year earlier, and 198 Bcf above the five-year average.

CONFIRMED FACTS The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) released its Weekly Natural Gas Storage Report on August 13, 2026, covering the week ended August 7. EIA reported 3,153 billion cubic feet (Bcf) of working natural gas in underground storage in the Lower 48 states as of Friday, August 7. The report states that working gas increased by 36 Bcf from 3,117 Bcf in the prior week. It also states that stocks were 25 Bcf below the corresponding week a year earlier and 198 Bcf above the five-year average of 2,955 Bcf. EIA characterized the total as within the five-year historical range. In the report’s regional table, the East region held 693 Bcf, the Midwest 829 Bcf, the Mountain region 239 Bcf, the Pacific region 300 Bcf, and the South Central region 1,093 Bcf. EIA notes that totals may not equal the sum of components because of independent rounding. ANALYSIS The reported weekly build added to Lower 48 working-gas inventories while leaving the total below the year-earlier level and above the report’s stated five-year average. The report covers working gas in underground storage in the Lower 48 states, not all gas supplies or all energy inventories.
